Avery Buffington

3D Generalist & Visual Development Artist

I'm a 3D Generalist and recent graduate of the University of Colorado Denver with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 3D Animation. In this program, I learned the 3D animation pipeline from story pitch to final cut and have collaborated on two senior short film productions for the Class of 2024. I currently work as a Biomedical Designer for 3D Systems Corporation using my modeling and sculpting skills to create patient-specific 3D-printed surgical implants.

I have also worked as an Animation Instructor at the University of Colorado Denver for the LYNX National Arts and Media camp. I designed curriculum lessons, created project examples, and led instruction for beginner and advanced classes of high school students learning the animation pipeline. I've also worked as an Animation Lab Monitor at the University of Colorado Denver at the as the primary resource for technical support for visual arts students and faculty using Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer, Arnold Renderer, Unreal Engine, Houdini, and Deadline. 

I keep up with the animation community through my involvement in organizations such as ACM SIGGRAPH, Women in Animation, and The Rookies. I have served as a volunteer at multiple conferences, developed my professional skills as a mentee, and been awarded for my portfolio work through Women in Animation and The Rookies. 

Outside of my work in 3D, I enjoy spending an afternoon out around town doing photography or photogrammetry or crafting my next costume for local comic conventions. I sew and tailor costumes, style wigs, and build props using skills I've picked up like wood and metal working and 3D printing.
