Today I worked on an initial draft for an illustration for Bathroom Stall Galactica.

Several months ago I sketched out these messy pen doodles in a notebook of an idea for a dynamic perspective drawing with a tilted horizon. I went through several iterations of the composition but I liked the second one the best.

I started working on a first pass of the illustration in Photoshop. I made the file CMYK and 300 ppi in case the group likes it and wants to use it for any poster/print usage.

I got some quick and dirty color in with a gradient filter over a grayscale sketch with basic lighting. I then went in and separated areas of color with a color filter layer. I also used some gradients and layer masks to get in some better lighting information. I've added a bit of grunge as well. In the end product I'd like it to look like an old poster with grain and folds/tears. I don't want the effects to overpower or take away from the illustration but just enough that they are noticeable.

For a few hours of work I'm pretty happy with where the illustration is so far. I've gotten some notes on the pose and I will be detailing the bottom of the ship when I get some reference screenshots of the official model.
