February 24th, 2024 - Mothman Sculpt Work
I worked some more on the details of the Mothman character model.
I connected the neck and the fluffy around the neck, added detail to the antennae, resculpted the feet with some added reference, added some detail to the arms, and worked on the hair fluff a bit.
The hands still need a little bit of work to look less sausage-y in the fingers but otherwise, I'm trying to not overcook anything and just make a decent pass on every part and then call it good.
February 26th, 2024 - Professional Materials Review
This week for the Professional Materials Review in Production class I submitted the following demo reel and resume:
February 27th, 2024 - Poster Proposal
I started on a sketch for the poster proposal idea. I had a bit of trouble getting the actual poster dimension template to work so I scaled down the ratio of the poster and worked on it in a different file. I assume that I'll probably end up doing the real illustration on a file half the size of the poster and then scaling it up. When opened in Photoshop the real size of the template is horrendously laggy and takes a handful of seconds just to draw a single line. I'm going to ask around other people who are making posters and see if they've come up with any solutions to that issue as well.
February 29th, 2024 - Poster Proposal Work
I worked some more on the poster and added in some basic value fills to try to understand how light would affect the composition. I also used a photo of one of the existing posters in the hallway from the class of 2023 to try to gauge the scale of the composition elements and what would be at eye level and easy to read. The design is still in its very rough stages but I think adding a bit of value and hue to the poster helped me envision the proposal better once it has clean lines and is fully rendered. I will be reaching out for feedback on the design to help me refine it before I fully dive into lineart or anything too crazy beyond my messy scribbles.
March 6th, 2024 - Personal Reflection
This week I have taken a bit of time away from thesis to work on midterm essays and exams for my other class as well as taking time to rest up from illness and take care of some other responsibilities. I've enjoyed the time off but now I really have to buckle up and get down to business lighting shots for Act I. I'm a little frustrated that I'm not yet done with the poster proposal or the Mothman character model but a large amount of my work has been done in production bouncing between a bunch of tasks. I'm hoping that as soon as Act I Lighting is done I can return to those tasks and finish them for good.
