Thesis Production Blog Week 19

I didn't get to accomplish a whole lot this week as I had a couple midterm exams and papers due this week, however I worked during production class on building a more accurate version of the wings to the new creature concept art in Maya and then importing them into ZBrush to work on for a bit.

The alpha maps on the wing are not final, I was more just experimenting how it could look. I will probably make a version of the wing that is almost nearly complete without them and then duplicate it to make the version with them, so I have a clean version of the almost fully sculpted wing without the alpha maps so that if I want to tweak them I can go back and try again without losing progress on the rest of the wing. I wish there was a way to do that kind of sculpting non-destructively in ZBrush. Theoretically it could be done in Substance painter but I do want the fur to affect the silhouette slightly, especially on the back towards where the wings connect to the body.

I'm trying to find a middle ground between the design of the wings being inspired by both the moth species that we liked as well as honoring the more bird like wings of typical mothman design/legend. I'm imagining more bird like in the way that they sprout out of the back, but turning more into a moth wing at the tips

I also started laying out some shots I've been assigned for s3040, s3050, and s3060. We have run into an issue where the environment with the trees and the cliff does not exist yet so it is difficult to lay out scenes with cameras for animation but I imported the very bare bones of what we might need like the rig, the ground, and a couple trees. I'm hoping that significant progress is made on the environment soon so we can start animating shots s3010-s3110 (11 shots) because it's been very cool to see the interior shots animated so far.
