Mothman Creature Revisions:
Illustration revisions to the Mothman creature design based on notes from the 9/29 Fall 2023 Production Pass 2 made for the 10/4 Wednesday meeting to be reviewed by the group.
Mothman Creature Body Revisions:
Revisions made to the legs and antennae to make the legs more "buggy" and segmented/elongated and to push the antennae more outwards made on Wednesday night after the meeting.
Mothman Creature Head/Face Revisions:
Illustration revision iterations to the Mothman creature head/face design made during the 10/6 Friday workday.
I started with the first illustration on the left and progressively took it further with the antennae and the face. I feel the best about the second and third one. I'm not sure if it's quite there yet but it feels like a step up in improvement.
The goal of the illustrations was to elaborate on the moth creature design as previously it was too human-like and resembled a man with moth parts stuck on him. I tried to overhaul the design to make the whole thing more "creature-y". In the process of doing so I think I experimented with some interesting visual style things like the sketchy charcoal marks or bringing the gold shimmer into the design as a whole. During our Wednesday meeting, we discussed seeing if we could simulate dark particles and sketch/charcoal marks around the body towards the end of the film that kind of wrap around and obscure the character just slightly. I think it would be a neat effect. During our work time on Friday Brett also showed the film The Backwater Gospel and the texturing and compositing elements of the stylized 2d effects and grunge really stood out to me.
