After working over the weekend on optimizing the environment, this is the result that I came up with for the s1011 environment shot:

It could use some tweaks but I'm overall pretty proud of it. It gives off the nice hopeful fresh-new-start vibe that we are looking for at the start of the film before the conflict starts brewing.
It also feels like it goes back to my original concept art from a year ago in a way that makes me feel very artistically fulfilled and happy.

I worked on the interior day lighting for the studio and for the hallway. It feels a bit bright at the moment and the hight of the normal maps and the inconsistency with the roughness maps is a bit distracting but overall it feels okay. The greenness of the outside is a bit distracting and I'm not sure what light that's coming from but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I came in to the lab early before production to work on the interior dusk/sunset lighting in the studio and this is what I got:

I got some feedback and pointers to work on learning about volume shaders so that I won't keep losing my progress on the aiAtmosphere lighting because it gets overwritten or assigned to a random object in the assembly and then overwritten. With a volume shader I could still achieve the same look but in a repeatable, controlled way that could be exported with the lighting setup to each scene to stay consistent, instead of having each person make sure the atmosphere is set up correctly in every shot.
I tried implementing the volume shader in s3000 and this is what I got. It's not the best and could use a LOT of tweaking as it is very foggy at the moment but it might overall be a better solution on the technical side.

I plan to spend a portion of my break researching volume shaders online and learning how to control them better. It seems very much the same as the aiAtmosphere controls but more robust and has more ways you can change and tweak it.
My other plans for the break include working on the character and some personal projects for demo reels to submit for Summer 2024 internship applications.
